All employees at five airports namely Tan Son Nhat (Ho Chi Minh City), Cam Ranh (Khanh Hoa Province), Can Tho (Can Tho City), Vinh in (Nghe An Province), and Lien Khuong (Lam Dong Province) have been tested for SARS-CoV-2 and showed all negative, according to a representative of Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV).

In the coming days, staff at sixteen other airports including Noi Bai, Da Nang, Phu Quoc, Cat Bi, Phu Bai, Buon Ma Thuot, Phu Cat, Pleiku, Chu Lai, Tho Xuan, Dong Hoi, Tuy Hoa, Con Dao, Dien Bien, Rach Gia and Ca Mau will be tested for Covid-19 by local Centers for Disease Control (CDC), according to Zing News.

Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport will have the highest number of employees tested, around 3,200 people, the ACV representative added.

Given the complicated development of the Covid-19 pandemic, ACV has asked its affiliated airports to actively contact the local CDC to conduct the Covid-19 testing for all employees working at airports.

ACV representative said that the affiliated airports have drastically implemented anti-epidemic measures in accordance with the directions of the Prime Minister, the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Transport, and the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), aiming to ensure safety for passengers traveling by air during Lunar New Year holiday.

Vietnam has 22 airports, but the Van Don Airport of northern Quang Ninh Province has been closed since Jan. 28 after a group of employees was found infected with the coronavirus. It is set to reopen on Feb. 13, VNExpress reported.

Since Jan. 28, Vietnam has recorded 375 Covid-19 community transmissions in the third wave sweeping through the nation. New infections have been detected in 10 cities and provinces so far: Hai Duong, Quang Ninh, Hanoi, Gia Lai, Binh Duong, Bac Ninh, Hoa Binh, HCMC, Hai Phong, and Bac Giang.

The current national Covid-19 tally of 1,957 includes 35 deaths. Over 65,000 people are quarantined in hospitals, centralized facilities, homes, or other designated accommodations.
